Life Day 23700: Flip a Coin DayJune 1, 2012 at 10:03 am | Posted in Today is | Leave a comment
Good morning wafflers. Today is Flip a Coin Day. Many people find it difficult to make decisions. Flipping a coin is the easiest way to resolve a situation where the correct decision is unclear. The coin flip has been around for centuries. It is rumored that Julius Caesar often used a coin toss to make decisions. Perhaps this explains why the Roman Empire is where it is today. If you are faltering about whether or not to celebrate this holiday, perhaps you should just flip a coin. Heads you celebrate, tails you don’t.
This next holiday is somewhat challenging. It is Dare Day. Dare Day is a day to challenge someone to a dare, and in turn, do a dare yourself. It is thought to have originated in Dare County, England where they celebrate Dare Day on the first Saturday in June. If you decide to celebrate Dare Day, keep the dares within reason. Don’t, for instance, dare someone to juggle operating chain saws or to pluck a whisker from a live Wolverine. Instead, dare someone to stop smoking or to finish an uncompleted home project. Have fun.
Today is also Heimlich Maneuver Day. The Heimlich Maneuver was created in 1974 by Dr. Henry Heimlich. There is controversy still today about whether or not he is the actual inventor if the Abdominal Thrust (aka Heimlich maneuver). Current choking guidelines call for first using five sharp blows to the back to dislodge the object blocking the airway, then if that fails to work, then use five abdominal thrusts. These should only be used on conscious victims. Whether you chose to call it the Heimlich maneuver or abdominal thrusts, it is a good thing to know, and I recommend that you learn how to properly perform the procedure.
Additionally, today is National Go Barefoot Day. Even as a child, I disliked going barefoot. Now, since I am Diabetic, I NEVER go barefoot, so I won’t be celebrating this holiday with you. If you like going barefoot, today is the day to do it. Go to the beach and walk barefoot in the sand, or go to a park and walk barefoot in the grass. It might also be a good day to go through you collection of old pairs of shoes and donate the ones you never wear anymore to charity.
The food related holiday today is National Donut Day. You don’t have to be a Police Officer to enjoy a good donut. I had two for breakfast this morning. How about you?
