Good morning everyone. Today is Hug Holiday. Hug Holiday Day was created to encourage you to give hugs to people who need them. This doesn’t mean for you to go around randomly hugging people. I today’s litigious society, that could only lead to trouble. Instead, you should visit visit senior centers and hospitals. Focus on the elderly, the sick, and the invalid. If you can, make a donation to a local senior center or other organization of that type.

There are two food related holidays today. The first is National Corn on the Cob Day. Just about everyone loves corn on the cob. Whether you steam it, boil it, or barbecue it, corn on the cob is one of America’s favorite vegetables. It’s in season now, so enjoy some for dinner. Just be sure to have plenty of dental floss on hand.
The second is National German Chocolate Cake Day. German chocolate cake is a rich chocolate cake with a coconut pecan filling frosted with chocolate frosting topped with more coconut. German chocolate cake does not come from Germany or from German immigrants, but it derives its name from German chocolate, a milder, sweeter chocolate developed in 1852 by Sam German, an Englishman who worked in America for Baker Chocolate Company. No matter its origins, enjoy some for dessert tonight.
