56th Annual San Francisco Auto Show

I decided to attend the San Francisco Auto Show this year. It is sponsored by the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper.

Being a friend of the environment, I decided to use public transportation to get there. I left Palo Alto via Cal Train and arrived in San Francisco a little after 9:30 AM. From there it was a short Muni bus ride to the Moscone Center where the event was held.

The admission price was reasonable, only $10.00. I had pre-purchased a ticket online so I wouldn’t have to wait in line…but it was so early that there wasn’t a line anyway. Most of the major car brands had exhibits showing their wares, from economy to luxury,  everyone was represented – from Hyundai and Fiat to Bentley and Ferarri displaying every available fuel option… gas, diesel, all-electric, hybrid, and fuel cell models. It was billed as a sales-free event, and it pretty much was…but that didn’t stop the representatives from handing out their cards for future reference.
Notably absent was Tesla. I thought for sure they would be at this event…especially with the new Model X coming out.

Law Enforcement was there showing how they squandered their Homeland Security dollars and PG&E had one of their new Hybrid Utility Vehicles on display…which wasn’t a waste of money.

But of course, the main reason I attended was the classic car exhibits.

For reasons unbeknownst to me, there were a plethora of pre-historic Packards exhibited this year — In fact, about 45% of the classic cars were Packards.

All in all, it was a nice diversion from my daily routine and well worth the time, effort, and money expended. I had a not so memorable burger at a not so memorable sandwich shop about 2 blocks from the venue. I did get a little tired towards the end. I’m not used to that much walking…It might not seem like it, but, according to my Fitbit, I walked close to 4-miles around the exhibits, and a little over 7-miles for the day in total. I’ll be paying for it physically for the next few days.

Oh yeah, last, but not least, I found my dream car here. I started saving for it immediately — Only 253,999 more days, and it’s mine…ALL MINE!
